Coach

Jack Bess

I started fencing at Apex Fencing Academy in 2012 and quickly fell in love with the sport. Over the years, I trained and competed in both foil and epee, earning national ratings in each before continuing at NC State’s club team. My coaching journey began in 2016, shadowing AFA coaches during camps and classes. Today, I lead advanced recreational classes, give private lessons, and coach summer camps for both new and returning fencers.

What keeps me coaching are those breakthrough moments when a student finally nails a move we’ve been drilling—it’s incredibly rewarding to witness their progress and growing confidence on the strip.

I love fencing and constantly strive to improve.  I aim to help my students become the best fencers they can be—to build a community where we all push each other to excel.
