Founded in 2010, AFA was created with the goal of growing the Olympic sport of fencing in North Carolina. Our knowledgeable, caring coaches are committed to helping each student grow in confidence, discipline, and athletic ability. We welcome beginners as well as experienced fencers with options for all ages and skill levels.
AFA fencers have gone on to represent Team USA at World Cups and earn spots in top NCAA collegiate programs, while others simply enjoy fencing as a fun and enriching recreational activity.

Wonderful exercise for my teen! He enjoys the pace of fencing and is always sweaty and exhausted after class.

Took a tour today. Igor was very informative in explaining the intro beginner class requirements, class agenda, and materials. Good covid protocols and overall clean facility . I’m excited to try a class and see if fencing is something I will enjoy.
Igor and Elli are amazing instructors! Very patient and knowledgeable. We did a group lesson and would absolutely recommend to anyone! Beginner or experienced! Clean equipment and facility!
Great experience. We planned a groomsmen event here which ended up being a blast. Coach Igor and his daughter Ellie were fantastic coaches who provided us with a great experience, along with showing us the basic skills of fencing and setting up a tournament style event.
We just completed the beginner lesson series at Apex Fencing Academy. Coach Igor and Coach Kriszti were fantastic. My daughter loved this experience and were are excited to move on to additional lessons. I *highly* recommend. This is a welcoming environment that teaches kids (and adults) the importance of technique, discipline, and perseverance.
My son and I fence at Apex Fencing Academy. My son started at 9 years old in the U10 class. Over the years he’s progressed through beginner, intermediate and now competitive programs. Coach Kriszti & Coach Igor have been there every step of the way. We recently moved into our own Apex location (from Middle Creek Community Center), and the new location offers more space, regulation strips, and a more serious atmosphere.
